Urinary leakage after prostate cancer surgery can affect time with family, exercise, travel, and confidence. Dr. Loh-Doyle’s practice focuses on restoring quality of life after cancer treatment, including the evaluation and surgical treatment of persistent male urinary incontinence, also called post-prostatectomy incontinence.
Based in Los Angeles, he provides care for patients from across Southern California, including those seeking an evaluation for ongoing leakage or problems with a previously implanted artificial urinary sphincter.
An Evaluation Built Around Your History
Your consultation is an opportunity to discuss when leakage occurs, how much protection you use, how symptoms affect your activities, and your goals. Previous prostate surgery, radiation, urethral reconstruction, and continence procedures are important parts of that discussion. Treatment recommendations depend on your individual evaluation.
Artificial Urinary Sphincter Surgery in Los Angeles
Dr. Loh-Doyle maintains a high-volume practice in artificial urinary sphincter (AUS) placement and revision. His work includes initial placement, evaluation of persistent or recurrent leakage, device troubleshooting, and complex revision or replacement.
Patients who have undergone radiation, previous urethral surgery, or treatment for device erosion may require a particularly individualized approach. Dr. Loh-Doyle works collaboratively with colleagues in the USC urology faculty to address challenging reconstructive problems.
Exploring Your Treatment Options
A consultation includes discussion of which approaches may be appropriate for your symptoms and surgical history. In addition to AUS surgery, Dr. Loh-Doyle offers evaluation for ProACT Adjustable Continence Therapy in selected men. Patients with radiation-associated urethral damage may also need evaluation for urethral reconstruction.
The goal is a treatment plan suited to your needs. Surgery has risks, and results vary; no procedure can guarantee complete urinary control.
Experience in Complex Reconstructive Urology
Dr. Loh-Doyle is Board Certified, American Board of Urology, and serves as Director of Genitourinary Prosthetic Surgery and Associate Professor of Clinical Urology at Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California. His clinical focus includes high-volume prosthetic surgery, complex revisions, and reconstruction after cancer treatment.

Published Experience in Complex Incontinence Care
Dr. Loh-Doyle’s peer-reviewed publications reflect a sustained focus on challenging reconstructive and prosthetic cases. His clinical practice includes incontinence after radiation therapy, neobladder reconstruction, and persistent leakage after previous treatments, including male sling and AUS surgery.
Radiation, Prior Reconstruction, and AUS Erosion
As first author of a 2025 study of 98 patients undergoing AUS removal for cuff erosion, Dr. Loh-Doyle reported on a complex USC cohort: 53 patients had prior pelvic radiation, and 86 had a history of radiation, urethroplasty, or previous AUS failure or erosion. This work addresses the management of damaged urethral tissue after a serious device complication.
Continence Surgery After Neobladder Reconstruction
His first-author publication on dual prosthetic implantation examines AUS and penile prosthesis outcomes in bladder cancer survivors following radical cystoprostatectomy and neobladder reconstruction—an example of his work in patients with substantially altered pelvic anatomy.
AUS Revision and Device Troubleshooting
His publications also examine complications after pressure-regulating balloon exchange and mechanical failure of AUS components. These topics relate directly to evaluating devices that no longer provide adequate urinary control and planning revision surgery.
- Predictors of Device Related Complications After Exchange of the Pressure Regulating Balloon in Men with an Artificial Urinary Sphincter. Urology. 2020.
- Mechanical failure rates of artificial urinary sphincter components: Is the 3.5-cm urethral cuff at higher risk? Neurourology and Urodynamics. 2018.
When a Prior Sling or AUS Has Not Worked
Dr. Loh-Doyle evaluates patients with ongoing or recurrent incontinence after male sling or AUS surgery. The goal is to understand the reason for persistent leakage, review prior procedures and tissue condition, and discuss an individualized plan for further treatment.
These studies describe specific patient groups and clinical questions. Individual outcomes depend on each patient’s circumstances.
Questions About Your Consultation
Can I seek care if I have already had an AUS or another continence procedure?
Yes. Dr. Loh-Doyle evaluates persistent or recurrent leakage and complex problems following prior procedures. Bring information about your previous operations and implanted devices, if available.
Can I discuss incontinence after both prostate surgery and radiation?
Yes. His reconstructive practice includes challenging cases following radiation and urethral surgery. Your history will help guide the evaluation and discussion of options.
Do you see patients from elsewhere in Southern California?
Patients from outside Los Angeles can contact the scheduling team to discuss an appointment and coordinate records. See the contact and care locations page for more information.
What should I bring?
Bring your medication list and relevant records, including prostate cancer treatments, operative reports, prior continence procedures, and device details. A description of your leakage and daily pad use can help explain your concerns.
